Mariculture, a method for raising fish in the open sea, is an important aquaculture sub-category that has been picking up speed in the past few years. It market value is estimated at over $50 billion in 2030.

 

This growing market is not close to fulfilling its potential of raising fish in the open sea, because, at present, over 80% of aquaculture facilities are located just 1-7 km from the coast, where their environmental impact is greater.

 

Currently, there is a potential area of 12.4 million square kilometers in 82 countries which can be used for Mariculture.
